SEARLES VALLEY / TRONA — October 26, 2026. Residents planning to reach Death Valley through Panamint Valley should be aware of a new National Park Service warning about Lower Wildrose Road, also called Trona–Wildrose Road. Following the October 22 storm, the park’s October 25 conditions update says the road is washed out and covered with debris in places.

Vehicles longer than 25 feet are not permitted on this road. The park specifically cautions that low-clearance vehicles and vehicles with street tires are not recommended given the storm damage. This is more detailed than the earlier news that flooding had closed other routes; it identifies a local approach route relevant to Trona and Searles Valley drivers.

Other storm closures nearby

NPS also reports Ubehebe Road closed because of flooding and debris beyond Big Pine Road, while Beatty Cut-off and Westside Road are closed after the October 22 storm. Titus Canyon Road remains closed for repairs, and access to Scotty’s Castle is restricted. These are separate park roads with different conditions and should not be summarized as ‘all of Death Valley is closed.’

Check access before leaving the valley

Roads through washes can deteriorate after flash floods, even if a map shows the route from a highway. A road being listed under ‘caution’ is not a guarantee that it is suitable for a particular car. Check the park’s current road map, daylight, weather and fuel options before travel; do not attempt to cross flowing water.
